Family History

Alfred Parker was born in 1882 he was the son of Robert a coal miner and Jane Parker née Willmet of Church Street, Eastwood. Robert was born in 1850 at Thurgarton, Jane Willmet was born in 1848 at Cropwell Butler, they were married in 1869 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration district. they had 8 children, sadly 2 died in in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his parents lived at Church Street, Eastwood, Robert is 62 yrs a works in a colliery, he is living with his wife Jane 63 yrs. Alfred married Sarah Hannah Flint (born 11th November 1883 at Eastwood) in 1902 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they had a son Stpen Parker born in 1902. In 1911 Alfred is living at 16 Bishop Street, Eastwood, he is shown as 28 yrs a railway shunter he is living with his wife Sarah Hannah 27 yrs and their son Stephen Parker 9 yrs. Alfred emigrated to Australia Following his death his widow returned to England in 1919, she married Kirwan Henry Milton in 1919 at Bromley, Kent they later lived at 78 South Street Hyde Park Doncaster Yorkshire.

Military History

Sergeant Alfred Parker enlisted on 3rd February 1916 in Australia, giving his age as 34 yrs, he was a station master and was married to Sarah Hannah Parker and lived at Railway Crescent, Bayswater, Perth, Western Australia. He was posted to the 44th battalion Australian Infantry. He embarked from Freemantle on 10th October 1916 on board HMAT Suffolk. He was killed in action on 4th July 1918 and is buried at Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery.
