Family History

Sidney Freeman was born in 1895 the son of Edwin a coal miner hewer and Elizabeth Freeman née Twyford of 48 Gregory Boulevard, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Edwin was born in 1855 and Elizabeth Twyford was born in 1856 both were born in Pinxton, Derbyshire, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 48 Gregory Boulevard Nottingham. Edwin was 56 yes and a coal miner hewer , Sidney was 16 yrs and a lace hand. Sidney married Rose Clarke (born 11th February 1895) in 1914 at Nottingham, they lived at 2 Vincent Terrace, Randle Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, they had two daughters Muriel born 9th May 1915 and Winifred born 1916 Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week

Military History

Private Sidney Freeman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He arrived in theatre (France) 9th December 1915, he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
