Family History

Cecil Windey was born in 1895 at Newark and was the son of Charles and Emma Windey née Davidson of 180 Barnby Gate Newark-on-Trent Nottinghamshire. His father Charles was born in 1833 at Weston, Lincolnshire and his mother Emma Davidson was born in 1861 at Markham Le Fen, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1885 at Lincoln and went on to have the following children, Nellie b1890 Horncastle, Cecil b1895 Newark and Emma b1897 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 44 Albert Street, Newark and are shown as Charles 78 yrs , no occupation listed, he is living with his wife Emma 50 yrs and their children Nellie 21 yrs a milliner, Cecil 15 yrs an office boy and Emma 14 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Cecil Windey enlisted at Newark and served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and is buried at New Irish Farm Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
