Leslie George Colman was born in 1897 at Cardiff he was the son of George William a warehouse man and Clara Colman née Smith of 122 Wilford Crescent East Nottingham. George William was born in 1868 at Bristol, Clara Smith was born in 1867 at Exeter, they were married in 1892 at Exeter and went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 census the family are living at 117 Lodge Lane, Leeds Clara 44 yrs is living with her six children, including Leslie George 14 yrs an assistant gardener, In the 1911 census his father George William 36 yrs is a warehouseman, he is boarding a 83 Queens Walk, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Leslie George Colman enlisted at Nottingham, serving with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment He was killed in action, 24th April 1917, aged 20, when a German 8 inch shell burst in the courtyard of battalion headquarters at Lievin, France. Buried : Canadian Cemetery No.2, Neuville-St. Vaast, France. Plot 2. Row B. Grave 16.

Death notice published 15th May 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “COLMAN. – Killed in action, April 24th, 1917, Private Leslie Colman, Sherwood Foresters in his 21st year, the dearly-loved second son of Mr. and Mrs. Colman, 122, Wilford-crescent.
