Family History

He was the son of Thomas and Jane Stones. At the time of the 1911 census the family was living at 18 Independent Hill, Sneinton, Thomas (45) was a brickyard labourer and his wife, Jane, (45) a lacehand. In the house at the time of the census were their children, Thomas (15), Florrie (17) and Jane (6) and a married daughter, Maggie (20) and granddaughter, also called Maggie (2). They later lived at 39 Beverley Street, St Ann's Nottingham.

Military History

He is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen (grave ref B.21.47).

Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 18 September 1916: 'Stones. Died of wounds September 15th 1916, Lance Corporal Thomas Stone, Sherwood Foresters, age 20. Only son of Mr and Mrs Stones. Mother, father, sisters, and sister Maggie.'
