Family History

He was the son of Thomas G Pilgrim, born 1871 at Nottingham who worked as a coal hewer. His mother was Kate Pilgrim, born in 1872 at Bombay, India. He was the brother of George, born in 1903 in Nottingham and Harold, born in 1906, Polly, born in 1896 in Nottingham who worked as a box maker and Ethel, born in 1901 in Nottingham. The family lived at 16 Churchill Street Nottingham before moving to 95 King's Meadow Road Meadows Nottingham.

Military History

Pilgrim was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 31/12/1915. On 14/10/16 the battalion was positioned north of the village of Les Boeufs, during the continuing Battle of the Somme, and received orders to attack the following day. The battalions advanced under a protective creeping barrage and captured some of the Germans gun pits which were held. Pilgrim was killed in action on 18/10/1916 as the fighting continued and he was buried at Grove Town Cemetery Meaulthe.
