Charles Harold Hague was born in 1889 at Nottingham and was the son of William Charles a hosiery warehouse man and Sarah Ann Hague née Parker of 41 Virginia Street, Nottingham. His father William Charles was born in 1865 at Lancashire and his mother Sarah Ann Parker was born in 1865 at Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had a further child a daughter Clarice b1892 Nottingham Charles Harold married his wife Jane Harriett Lightfoot (born 9th October 1885) on 5th December 1908 at Nottingham, they lived at 21 Edginton Street, Nottingham, they had the following children, Kathleen May born 29th June 1909 and Doris born 20th September 1916. In the 1911 census Charles is living at 3 Guys Terrace, Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham and is shownas as Charles Harold Hague 23 yrs a painter, he is living with his wife Jane Harriett 2 6 yrs. In the same 1911 census his parents are living at 41 Virginia Street, Nottingham and are shown as William Charles 46 yrs a hosiery warehouse man, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 46 yrs and their daughter Clarice 19 yrs a machinist. Following Charles Harold's death his widow Jane was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence which commenced on 10th March 1919 , CWGC gives her address as 49 Broad Oak Street, Nottingham.
Private Charles Harold Hague attested on 11th December 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 28 yrs and 1 month, his address was 21 Edington Street, Thorneywood, Nottingham, he stated he was a painter and his next of kin was his wife Jane Harriett of the same address. He was posted to the reserves and was mobilised on 1st June 1916 and was posted as a sapper in the Royal Engineers. On 7th August 1916 was transferred to the reserves and called up on 20th January 1917 and served wit the Royal Engineers until he was transferred to the 5th Battalion Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment) He landed in France on 10th September 1917 and died of wounds on 25th August 1918 and is buried in Douchy-les-Ayette British Cemetery.
In memoriam published 25th August 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HAGUE. – In loving memory of Pte. C. Hague, died of wounds August 25th, 1918, dearly loved and only son of W. C. and L. A. Hague. Supreme sacrifice. – From mother, dad, Clarice, Harry. “HAGUE. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Pte. C. Hague, killed in action August 25th, 1918.
