He was the son of Arthur Frederick and Hannah Sharp and the brother of John Baker Douglas, Robert Kimberley and Reuben Sharp. They lived at 360 St Ann's Well Road Nottingham.
Corporal Arthur Frederick Claude Sharpe attested for 6 yrs service in the Army Special Reserve at Nottingham on 28th July 1913, and joined the 3rd battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was 18 yrs and 1 month of age, he gave his occupation as that of fitter and turner. He was mobilised on the outbreak of war , he was promoted to Lance Corporal on 8th September 1914. He landed in France on 11th December 1914, and was promoted to corporal on 12th December 1914. He was killed in action on 11th February 1915 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Leicestershire Regiment and is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery Richebourg-L'Avoque Grave Reference: I.G.5
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 6 March 1915: ‘Corporal AFC Sharp, 2nd Leicesters, attached to the Indian Forces, 360 St Ann’s Well Road, killed in action February 11th.’ Research by Rachel Farrand
