Family History

Harry Morley was born on 13th December 1900 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 20th May 1901 at St Ann’s Nottingham, was the son of John James a house painter and Elizabeth Morley née Loach of 88 Calverton Road, Arnold, Nottingham. John James Morley was born in 1860 in Derbyshire, Elizabeth Loach was born in 1861 at Cotgrave, they were married on 26th December 1881 at St Stephens Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 64 Corporation Road, Nottingham, John James is 51 yrs and a house painter, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 50 yrs a lace hand, they are living with their children, John Loach 29 yrs a house painter, Selina 23 yrs a lace hand , Herbert Edward 17 yrs a brick maker and Harry 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Harry Morley enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 98851 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he transferred to the 10th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was killed in action on 17th October 1918 and is buried at Montay Neuvilly Road, Cemetery, Montay, France.

Extra Information

His younger brother Herbert Edward Morley also served during the Great War, he enlisted on 18th August 1910 at Nottingham giving his age as 17 yrs and 3 months, he was living at 64 Corporation Road, and worked as a brick maker for the Bulwell Brick Company. He served with the service number 1233 in the 7th battalion Robin Hood Rifles, Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 28th February 1915, he was however discharged on 17th August 1915 as time expired. He died in 1920.
