John William was born in 1892 in Leicester and was the son of John Thomas a lithographic printer and Hannah Morgan née Pinder of 18 Bullivant Street, Alfred Street, Nottingham. His father John Thomas was born in 1868 in Sheffield and his mother Hannah Smith Pinder was born in 1867 in Nottingham, they were married in Nottingham in 1889 and had the following children , Annis b1891 Huddersfield, John William b1892, Herbert b1894 Nottm, Edith b1896 Nottm, Annie b1898 Nottm, Harold b1900 Nottm, Charles b1903 Nottm, Horace b1906 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at Bullivant Street, Nottingham and are shown as John Thomas 43 yrs a lithographic printer, he is living with his wife Hannah 44 yrs and their children , John William 19 yrs a printer, Herbert 17 yrs a joiners labourer, Edith 15 yrs a lace hand , Annie 13 yrs a scholar, Harold 11 yrs a scholar, Charles 8 yrs a scholar and Horace 5 yrs

Military History

Private John William Morgan, enlisted at Nottingham on 21st April 1914 , he was 22 yrs of age, he was a printer and lived at 18 Bullivant Street, Nottingham he was posted to the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles). He landed in France on 25th February 1915, and later returned to England on 15th October 1915 . He returned to France once more on 1st June 1916 and e was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of The Battle of the Somme, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
