Family History

Harry Reginald Henson known as Reginald was born in 1898 he was the eldest son of Harry a confectioner and Sarah Sophia Henson née Smith who were living at 120 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham, at the time of their son's death. Harry was born in 1873 at Nottingham, he died on 15th January 1940 aged 87 yrs Sarah Sophia Smith was born in 1875 in India, she died on 6 July 1929 aged 54 they were married on 10th September 1894 at St Matthias Church, Nottingham, they had 3 children. In 1911 the family are living at 371 St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham, Harry 38 yrs is a confectioner, he is living with his wife Sarah 36 yrs and their children, Dorothy 15 yrs assisting in her fathers business, Harry Reginald 13 yrs scholar and Harold Robert 11 yrs scholar.

Military History

Lance Corporal Harry Reginald Henson enlisted on 17th May 1915 at Nottingham. Served as Reginald he was appointed Lance Corporal on 21st August 1915, went to France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, on 20th July 1916, aged 18, whilst the battalion was in the line near Bethune, France. He is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery , Richbourg, L'Avoue , Pas De Calais , France

CWGC gives his name as 'R Henson' and date of death of 20th July 1916, however the inscription on the family grave states he died on 19th July 1916 and gives his first names as 'Harry Reginald' Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 4 August 1916: 'Henson. Killed in action July 20th, Lance Corporal Reginald Henson Sherwood Foresters, aged (?), eldest son of Mr and Mrs H Henson of 120 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham.' Family grave, Nottingham Southern Cemetery: '(Sarah Sophia and Harry Henson) Harry Reginald, son of the above, killed in action at Bethune July 19th 1916 age 19 years. To have, to love, to lose and when God wills to find.'
