Henry Egner (junior) was born in 1892 the son of Henry Egner (senior) a skin dresser and Elizabeth Egner née Stanley and the brother of George, Elizabeth, Charles, Phillip, Caroline, Florence and Lily Egner. In 1911 they lived at 17 Sketchley Street Nottingham. Henry Egner (senior) was born in 1871 at Hull, Elizabeth Stanley was born in 1870 at Derby, married in 1890 at Derby they had 8 children. Henry Egner (junior) married Emma Good (born 15th April 1891) in 1912 at Nottingham, they had a daughter Marjorie Irene Egner born 9th April 1913, they lived at 36 Lewis Street, Alfred Street, Nottingham. Commencing 18th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week. Emma married Robert Briggs in 1918 and they lived at 61 Carlton Road Nottingham.
Private Henry Egner, enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield and served with the 1/5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th July 1917. He is buried in Philosphe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe.
In memoriam published 7th August 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “EGNER. – In loving memory of Private Henry Egner, died of wounds, July 28th, 1917, aged 27.
