Herbert Green was born in 1893 the son of James (b. Nottingham 1852) and Margaret Green (née Higgins b. Nottingham 1849). Married in 1870, they had ten children two of whom died in infancy or early childhood. All born at Nottingham they were Kate b.1870, Henry b.1872, Margaret b.1874, James b.1877, Annie b.1881, John b.1889, Albert b.1891, Herbert b.1893, and Alfred b.1895. In the 1911 the family was living at 20 West Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. Albert and James were bricklayers, Alfred a hosiery hand and Margaret a lace winder.

Military History

Herbert Green enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 26th August 1915. He is buried in Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, Grave Reference I.K. 19
