Family History

George was born in 1895 and was the son of William Arthur and Rose Jane Mees of 22 Lees Hill Street, Sneinton Nottingham. His father William Arthur was born in 1872 in Nottingham his mother Rose Jane Huish was born in 1873 in Chard Devon, they were married in 1892 in Nottingham. His mother Rose Jane was admitted as a Lunacy Patient at Nottingham on 29th June 1908 (she died in 1934) In the 1911 census George is 5 yrs of age and is living at 29 Lees Hill Street with his father William Arthur 39 yrs a disinfector with the Nottingham Corporation health department, also at the address is his sister Lilly 4 yrs, they also share the address with his uncle John George Mees 36 yrs his wife Hannah 34 yrs and their children George 16 yrs and Edna 1 yr.

Military History

Private George Mees enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 7th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he landed in France on 14th July 1915 joining the British Expeditionary Force. He died of pneumonia on 30th January 1916 and was buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery grave reference VIII C 86.
