Family History

Leonard Patchett was the son of George Arthur Patchett and Mary Jane Tegerdine who married in the Lincoln registration district in 1885. Their children included: Gertrude Mary (b.1890/d.1905), Leonard (b.1898) and George William (b.1902). They had three other children who didn’t survive childhood [C.1911]. The Patchett family lived at: 8 Westgate, Lincoln, Lincs. [C.1891]; 8 Pine Street, Radford [C.1901]; 7 Garden Street, Radford [C.1911]. This latter address was also given when the Nottingham Evening Post eventually announced Private L. Patchett’s death [n.e.p.8.7.1916]. The post-war address for the Patchetts provided by CWGC is 54 Garden Street, Radford. George Arthur Patchett, who was a bricklayer’s labourer in 1891 and an underground navvy in 1901 died at Nottingham, aged 78, in 1946. What happened to Mary Jane, his wife, after 1911 is unclear.

Military History

Private Leonard Patchett, served with the 12th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he landed in France on 9th September 1915 and was killed in action on 25th September 1915. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
