Arthur John Attewell was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur an iron moulder and Ellen Attewell née Carlisle of 71 Sneinton Boulevard, Nottingham. Arthur was born in 1854 at Nottingham, Ellen Carlisle was born in 1853 at Nottingham, they were married on 22nd November 1874 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they had 8 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their six children surviving infancy - Clara b.1875 , Arthur John b.1882, Gertrude b.1888, Thomas b.1890, George b.1891 and Albert b.1893. In 1911 the family lived at 71 Sneinton Boulevard Nottingham, Arthur 57 yrs is an iron moulder he is living with his wife Hellen 58 yrs and their children, Arthur John 28 yrs a warehouse clerk, Thomas 21 yrs a warehouse clerk, Gertrude 23 yrs a jennier, George 20 yrs a cutter, Albert 18 yrs a warehouse clerk.

Military History

Private Arthur John Attewell enlisted at Sheffield, he served with the 1st battalion South Wales Borderers he was killed in action on 2nd April 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
