Thomas William Joseph Lockley was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Lockley and the late Mary Lockley née Waites and the step brother of Elizabeth, Mabel and Harriet Lockley. Thomas Lockley was born in 1860 at Church Eaton, Staffordshire, he died in 1905 at Nottingham aged 44 yrs, Mary Elizabeth Waites was born in 1862 at Loughborough, she died in 1914 aged 51 yrs, married in 1898 at Basford, Mary brought 4 children to the marriage. In 1911 they lived at 26 Berridge Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham Mary is a widow 49 yrs a housekeeper and Thomas is 12 yrs of age.
Private Thomas Lockley was called up on 16th September 1916 at Nottingham, giving his age was 17 yrs and 171 days, he was a warehouse assistant, his address was 89 Stanley Road, Forest Fields Nottingham. Posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 1st May 1917 and posted to a training battalion. He embarked on 1st April 1918 with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. Transferred to the 8th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on 12th August 1918 he was killed in action on 27th September 1918 and is buried at Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres, France.
His next of kin was his step sister Mabel Clara Emmerton née Waites of 89 Stanley Road, Forest Fields (both parents deceased)
