He was the son of George and Eliza Parkes and the brother of George, Albert, Ernest, Herbert and Eliza Ann Parkes. In 1911 they lived at 86 Manvers Street Nottingham. He was the husband of Gertrude (née Prestbury) Parkes and the father of William Parkes who was born in 1915. They lived at 6 Belton's Yard Manvers Street Sneinton Nottingham. Getrude married Frank Green in 1919 and they lived at 3 Cardinal Street St Ann's Nottingham.
