Edward Reed was born in 1891 the son of Sylvester a dye maker and Emma Reed ( née Lord) of 8 Ivy Row, Freeman Street, Nottingham. Sylvester was born in 1858 in Nottingham and Emma Lord in 1857 also in Nottingham. Married in 1879, they had four children - John b.1882, Elizabeth b.1884, Edward b.1891 and Arthur b.1895. In 1911 they lived at 57 Millstone Lane. Emma was a lace maker and Arthur made sinkers. Edward married Mabel Annie Butterworth on 16th May 1910 in Nottingham, and they lived at 34 Freeman Street, Nottingham.
Edward Reed enlisted on 6th May 1916 at Nottingham. He was posted to the 6th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery and landed in France on 27th July 1917. He was admitted to the No 3 Stationary Hospital, Rouen on 5th October 1918 as a result of being gassed and died there as a result of influenza. He is buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
