Family History

Samuel Henry Lokes was born in 1889 at Nottingham and was the son of Jabez a painter and Catherine Lokes née Dwyer of 66 Broad Oak Street, Corporation Road, Nottingham. His father Jabez was born in 1866 at Nottingham, his mother Catherine Dwyer was born in 1869 at Leicester, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Samuel Henry b1889, Annie b1891, John b1896, James b1898, Edith b1900 and William Lokes b1905 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 210 Alfreton Road Nottingham and were shown as Jabez 45 yrs a painter, he is living with his wife Catherine 42 yrs and their children, Samuel 22 yrs a house painter, Annnie 20 yrs a wardrobe dealer, John 15 yrs a lace card puncher, Edith 11 yrs a scholar, James 13 yrs a scholar, and William 6 yrs of age. Samuel Henry married Albertina Elizabeth Moss (born 1st November 1892) in 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Lincoln Registration district, at the time of Samuels death they were living at 41 Cromwell Road, Hertford. His widow Albertina was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 6th May 1918.

Military History

Lance Corporal Samuel Henry Lokes enlisted a Lincoln whilst residing at Hertford he served with the 10th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 19th October 1917 and is buried at Saint Sever Cemetery extension

Extra Information

His brother Private John William Lokes enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters , he was reported missing on the 9th April 1917 but officially reported killed at the end of March 1918. He is buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maiseemy 4.A.3
