Wilfred Leslie Mosley was born in 1891 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel a lace curtain draughtsman and Rose Sarah Mosley née Wigley and the brother of Claude Owen, Vivian Spencer and Rose Edna Mosley In 1911, they lived at 234, Haydn Road, and later at 55, Osborne Grove, Sherwood (both Nottingham). Vivian Spencer Mosley was killed 14/10/1915 serving with 1st Bn Grenadier Guards. Samuel was born in 1862 at Basford, Rose Sarah Wigley was born in 1866 at Grantham, they were married on 17th November 1885 at St John’s Church, Carrington, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 234 Haydn Road, Sherwood, Sameul 49 yrs is a lace curtain draughtsman, he is living with his wife Sarah 44 yrs and their children, Wilfred 20 yrs a designer, Claude Owen, 18 yrs a shop assistant, Vivian Spencer 17 yrs a lace warehouse man and Rose Edna 9 yrs. Wilfred Leslie married Dorothy Mary Alice Steward (born 14th June 1890 ) on 21st July 1914 at St John’s Beeston, they lived at 51 Gladstone Street, Beeston, they had 2 children, Dorothy Lois born 28th July 1915 and Donald Vivian born 20th October 1917. Commencing 4th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Lance Corporal Wilfred Leslie Mosley enlisted at Watford whilst residing at Bushy, Hertfordshire, initially serving with the service number 52144 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment later transferring to the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 5th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
his brother Lance Corporal Vivian Spencer Mosley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards he was killed in action on 14th October 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
