John Foxon was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Vallance Terringham a fitters labourer and the late Ellen Foxon née Preston Smith and the brother of Nelly, Samuel and Harry Foxon.
His father Vallance Terringham was born in 1862 at Nottingham, he died in 1916 aged 54 yrs his mother Ellen Preston Smith was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married in 1895 at Nottingham, they had 6 children, sadly two were to die in infnacy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 9 Dennett's Terrace Beaumont Street Sneinton Nottingham Vallance 48 yrs is a fitters labourer, he is living with his wife Ellen 41 yrs and their children, Nelly 15 yrs a box maker, John 12 yrs a scholar, Samuel 7 yrs and Harry 5 yrs of age.
Private John Foxon enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
