Walter Dickerson was born in 1891 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late (Albert) Edgar a publican and Elizabeth Ellen Dickerson née Stones and the brother of Edgar, William and Annie Dickerson. In 1901 they lived on Windmill Lane Sneinton where Edgar snr kept the Red Cow public house he was still there when he died in 1908

His father Edgar was born in 1854 at Woodbridge, Suffolk, he died in 1908 at Nottingham, he was aged 54 yrs his mother Elzabeth Ellen Stones was born in 1863 at Nottingham she died in 1894 at Nottingham, she was 31 yrs old. they were married on 11th May 1880 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they had 4 children.

Military history

Lance Bombadier Walter Dickerson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'B' Bty 108th Brigade, Royal Filed Artillery, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Poziers Memorial,

'Dickerson. Killed in action March 21st 1918, our dear brother Bdr. Walter Dickerson DCM, a noble life laid down.'
