Leonard Fletcher was born in 1898 in Carlton and was the son of late Thomas Hezekiah Fletcher a furniture dealer and Eliza Fletcher née Wallace of 49 Young Street, Carlton, Nottingham. His father Thomas Hezekiah was born in 1872 in Carlton and his mother Eliza Wallace was born in 1872 also in Carlton, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they had three children all born in Carlton, Lawrence b1894 ,Leonard b1898, and Dorothy b1904. His father Thomas Hezekiah died in 1909 in Nottingham he was 37 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are living at 49 Young Street, Carlton, and are shown as Eliza 39 yrs a widowed machinist, she is living with her children Leonard 13 yrs an errand boy and Dorothy 7 also living at the address is Louisa Thompson 29 yrs a machinist a boarder. In the same 1911 census Lawrence Fletcher has left the family home, he has joined the Royal Garrison Artillery and is with them in barracks in Bermuda. Lawrence was still serving in Jamaica in April 1918 ('In Memoriam' notice to his brother, Leonard).
Acting Bombardier Leonard Fletcher, served with the 2nd Depot, Royal Garrison Artillery, he died at Mill Road Auxiliary Hospital, Liverpool, on 9th April 1917. He is buried in Carlton Cemetery.

We miss him and mourn him in silence. – From mother, Dorothy, Lawrence (Jamaica). [1] “FLETCHER. – In loving memory of Bombardier Leonard Fletcher, R.G.A., who passed away after service in France, April 8th, 1917.
