Horace Kenneth Feneley was born in 1895 at Sleaford, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Richard a carpenter and joiner and Fanny Feneley née Cooper of 44 West Banks, Sleaford, Lincolnshire,
His father Richard was born in 1861 at Donnington, Linconshire his mother Fanny Cooper was born in 1862 at Helpingham, Lincolnshire, they were married in 3rd April 1883 at Sleaford, they went on to have 5 children.
In the 1911 census Horace 16 yrs a brewers clerk is living at 44 West Banks, Sleaford, he is living with his mother Fanny 49 yrs and sister Ethel 25 yrs a dressmakers assistant.
Private Horace Kenneth Feneley enlisted on 1st February 1916 at Nottingham, giving his address as 141 Colwick Road, Nottingham, he was 21 yrs and 1 month old, he was a cashiers clerk his next of kin was his mother Fanny of 44 West Banks, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilsed for war on 1st March 1916 he joined the Sherwood Foresters at their regimental depot at Derby on 2nd March 1916. He embarked from Folkstoe on 2nd March 1917 landing the same day at Boulogne. He was killed in action on 1st August 1917 whilst serving with the 89th company Machine Guns Corps, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, France.
Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 17/9/1917:
'Feneley. Killed in action August 1st 1917 Horace Kenneth Feneley Machine Gun Corps of 141 Colwick Road Nottingham, younger son of Mrs Feneley Sleaford aged 24 (sic)'
His birth was registered J/F/M/1895 and CWGC cites age 22.
