Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 26/7/1917: 'Beardall. Killed in action July 1st Private A Beardall Sherwood Foresters aged 30 years. I think I see his smiling face as he bade his last goodbye, and he left his hime forever in a distant land to die: but the hardest part is yet to come when the heroes all return and I miss among the cheering crowd the face of my loved one. - Sorrowing wife.'
