Family History

Horace Wardall was born in 1894 the birth was recorded in the Basford Registration District and he was the son of the late Alfred and Hannah Wardall née Shooter of 24 Betts Street, Hucknall. His father Alfred was born in 1869 in Madeley, Shropshire and his mother Hannah Shooter was born in 1871 at Hucknall, Nottingham, they were married in 1894, the marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District (she was shown as Annie and not Hannah in the marriage registration), they had a further son Alfred born 1900 also at Hucknall. His father Alfred was to die in in 1900 aged 31 yrs the death was recorded in the Basford Registration District. In the 1901 census the family were living at 24 Betts Street, Hucknall, his mother Hannah is shown as being 30 yrs a widow and a lace maker, she is living at the address with her two sons Horace 6 yrs and Alfred 6 months. In 1911 he was living with grandparents Henry and Ann Bainbridge along with his brother . Alfie at 7 Co-operative Avenue Hucknall Torkard.

Military History

Bombardier Horace Wardall enlisted at Nottingham and served with 'B' Bty Royal Field Artillery. He landed in France on 11th September 1915. He died in England and is buried in Norwich Cemetery, Norfolk.
