William Martin

William Martin was born in 1888 at Nottingham and was the son of Walter a warp hand lace maker and his first wife the late Rose Ellen Martin née Larrington of 11 Highurst Street, Radford. His father Walter was born in 1863 at Loughborough, his mother Rose Ellen Larrington was born in 1863, she died in 1893 aged 30 yrs her death was recorded in the Holbeach registration district, they had the following children, William b1888 and Frederick b1891 both born in Nottingham. His father re married C1895 to Mary Ann Grayson born 1859 at Sheffield she brought a son to the marriage George Grayson born 1889 . In the 1911 census his father and siblings were living at 11 Highurst Street, Radford, they were shown as Walter Martin 48 yrs a warp hand in lace trade, he is living with his wife Mary Ann Martin 52 yrs and their children, Frederick Martin 20 yrs a warp hand in the lace trade and Charles Martin 12 yrs a scholar, Walter stated he had been married for 16 yrs and had one child with his wife. William married Catherine Stone (born 9th September 1888 at Mansfield) in 1910 at Nottingham. They lived at 7 Denmark Street, Brooke Street, Nottingham, his wife brought a daughter to the marriage Margaret Stone born 2nd May 1908 they went on to have two further children Florence born 12th November 1911 and Walter born 2nd February 1913. In the 1911 census William and his wife were living at 59 Denman Street Radford Nottingham and were shown as William 23 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Catherine 22 yrs a cop winder. Following Williams death his widow Catherine was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week which commenced on 8th July 1918.
