Family History

Charles Henry Briggs was born in 1895 the son of Henry a brick layer’s labourer and Rosina Briggs (née Ingers). His father was born in 1871 at Nottingham and his mother in 1874 also at Nottingham. Married in Nottingham, they had eight children, six surviving infancy - Charles b.1895, Benjamin b.1899, Henry b.1902, John b.1904, Thomas b.1906 and Mark b.1910. In 1910 they lived at 44 Milk Square Glasshouse Street, in 1911 at 4 Alvey’s Yard Fisher Gate and at the time of Charles’s death at 123 Peas Hill Road St Ann’s (all Nottingham).

Military History

Charles Briggs served under his mother’s maiden name Ingers (probably because his parents had separated). He enlisted in Nottingham and landed in France on 14th July 1915.
