Dennis Bamford was born in 1887 the son of Thomas James a printer compositor and Nelly Kate Bamford (née Acton). His father was born in 1862 in Winchester, Hampshire and his mother in 1864 at Nottingham. Married in 1880 at Nottingham, they had seven children - Thomas b.1881, Ada Rose b.1884, Charles b.1885, Dennis b.1887, Mary Ellen b.1889, Cyril b.1891 and Annie b.1892. In 1901 they lived at 4 Brewery Street, Pinder Street Nottingham. He married Mabel Ethel Brown in 1907 and in 1911 they lived at 31 Whittier Road, Colwick Road Nottingham with their son Eric William who had been born in 1910. In 1914 they lived at 14 Hatton Street, Colwick Road.
Dennis Bamford enlisted on 14th September 1914 at Nottingham into the Territorial Army. He had previously served 4 years with 7th Battalion Nottingham and Derbyshire Regiment and was again posted to the that unit. He landed in France on 28th February 1915 and received a gunshot wound to the jaw which resulted in his admittance to 10th Stationary Hospital at St Omer. He died as a result of his wounds at the hospital on 2nd September 1915 and was buried in Longuenesse (St Omer) souvenir Cemetery Grave Reference: II A 22
