Sidney Prior was born in 1897 the son of Joseph a brick maker and Annie Prior née Maddock. His father was born in Sneinton in 1858, his mother in 1859 at Ratcliffe on Soar, Leicestershire. Married in 1875 they had eleven children. Sidney’s siblings surviving infancy were Annie b.1876 Ratcliffe on Soar, Mary b.1880, Albert b.1882, Edith b1886, John b1889, Joseph b.1892 and Cissie b.1895. The last six were all born at Sneinton. In 1911 they lived at 66 Windmill Lane Sneinton. Edith was a lace hand, John a railway labourer, Joseph an apprentice painter and Cissie a cigar maker.
Sidney Prior enlisted in Nottingham and is buried in Loos British Cemetery Grave Reference: III E 14
