Ernest Booth was born in 1887 at Nottingham and was the son of the late George Booth and Alam Booth née Spinks. His father George Booth was born in 1861 at Sheffield he died in 1900 aged 39 yrs and his mother Alma Spinks was born in 1866 at Derby they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. Ernest Booth married his wife Ada Sweet (born 14th February 1888 Nottingham ) on 11th December 1911 at Nottingham Registrar Office, they lived at 6 Revell Terrace, Rye Street, New Basford, his wife Ada brought two children to their marriage Cissie Sweet born 2nd September 1909 and May Sweet born 16th November 1910 they had two further children, Alma Ethel born 7th February 1913 and Ernest John 19th March 1916 (he died on 2nd April 1916 aged 24 days.) In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Elson Street, New Basford and are shown as Ernest Booth 24 yrs a lace maker he is living with his wife Ada 24 yrs and their children, Cissie 2 yrs and May 6 months of age. Following his death his widow Ada was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 2nd April 1917.
Rifleman Ernest Booth enlisted on 8th September 1914 giving his age as 27 yrs and 214 days, his occupation was that of a lace factory hand. He was posted to the Rifle Brigade and joined his battalion at barracks at Winchester on the 9th September. He embarked from Folkstone on 22nd July 1915 and was wounded in action on 3rd September 1916 with a shell wound to his back, he died on 15th September 1916 at the 21st casualty clearing station, France. He is buried at Neuville British Cemetery, France.
