Family History

John Thomas Jepson was born in 1894 at Southwell and was the son of George a groom and gardener and Mary Ann Jepson née Peacock, of Trinity Place, Westgate, Southwell. His father George was born in 1869 at Southwell and his mother Mary Ann Peacock was born in 1867 at Great Staughton, they were married in 1890 at Southwell and went on to have the following children, George b1891, Charlotte Mary b 1892, John Thomas b1894, James Edward b1897, Florence b1899, Annie b1902 and Sidney b1907. In the 1911 census the family are living at Trinity Place, Westgate, Southwell and are shown as George Jepson 42 yrs a groom/gardener he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children George 19 yrs a confectioners apprentice, John Thomas 16 yrs a grocers apprentice, James Edward 14 yrs a grocers errand boy, Florence 12 yrs a scholar, Annie 9 yrs a scholar and Sidney 4 yrs of age.

Military History

Lance Corporal John Thomas Jepson enlisted at Southwell, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was wounded at Kemmel and later killed in action on 20th November 1917. He is buried at Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, Nord, France.
