Thomas Henry Hart was born in 1894 and was the son of William a bricklayers labourer and Eliza Hart née Scott of 8 Stanhope Street Sneinton Nottingham. His father William was born n 1858 at Sneinton, his mother Eliza Scott was born in 1860 at Nottingham she died in 1918 at Nottingham aged 58 yrs, they had the following children, William b1880, John Wood b1881, Ernest b1883, James b1886, Elizabeth b1888, Robert b1890, Thomas Henry b1894 and Eliza A b1897, all were born in Sneinton. Thomas Henry (Harry) Hart married Alice Robotham (born 2nd February 1894 )in 1908 at Nottingham they went on to have 2 children, Thomas Henry born 14th January 1914 and Ernest 28th May 1916, they lived at 63 Brand Street, Meadow Lane Nottingham. Following his death his widow Alice was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 27th November 1916.
Private Thomas Henry Hart enlisted in Nottingham serving initially in the Sherwood Foresters (4404) before transferring to the 72nd Company of the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 7th May 1916 and is buried at Dranoutre Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I E 4
In memoriam published 5th May 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HART. – To the loving memory of my dear husband, Thomas Henry Hart, who sacrificed himself in the great cause May 5th, (sic) 1916. Gone, but not forgotten. – Wife [Alice] and children. “HART. – In loving memory of my dear son, Private Thomas Hart, Sherwood Foresters, killed in action May 5th,(sic) 1916. His brother John Wood Hart also served during the Great War, he attested on 31st August 1914 at Nottingham, he was 34 years 242 days old, he was posted with the service number 13858 into the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters and joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 18th September 1915, he returned to England on 20th April 1916 and was discharged from the Army on 3rd August 1916 being no longer fit for active service due to sickness, he died in 1918.
