Frank was born in 1881 was the son of John Richardson a house painter and Fanny Richardson née Newham of 7 Duke Terrace Dawson Street Sneinton Nottingham. His father was born at Nottingham in 1851 and his mother in 1852 also at Nottingham. They were married in 1872 in Nottingham and had 8 children all of whom were born in the city:- Walter b.1875, Lucy, 1878, Frank b.1882, Mary b.1884, Arthur b.1887 (killed in action 11/10/1916), Ernest b.1887, Millicent b.1889 and Harriett b.1892. Frank married Emma Stanley at St Matthias Church Sneinton on 31st March 1902. They lived at 11 Dennett’s Terrace, Beaumont Street. Prior to the marriage, in 1901, they had a son Fred Stanley and had a further eight children all born at Nottingham with six surviving infancy:- Rose b. 19/11/1904, Arthur b.27/11/1906, Millicent 07/12/1908, Frank 11/03/1911, Ernest Henry 09/04/1912, and Stanley 11/04/1914. In 1911 they lived at 30 Moody Street Nottingham. When Frank was discharged from the Army in 1916 he was living at 17 Ebenezer Square, Clarence Street Nottingham.
Frank enlisted at Nottingham on 31st August 1914 aged 33. He was posted to the Royal Engineers and landed in France on 12th May 1915. He was gassed and returned to England on 16th March 1916. He went before a medical board on 1st May 1916 and he was declared medically unfit due to TB of the lung. He was discharged on 3rd June 1916 and died within two months.
