John Henry 'Harry' Briggs was the son of Thomas and Annie Briggs of 37 Alberta Terrace Sherwood Rise Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is listed as John Henry Briggs 21 yrs a gunner with 139 Battery Royal Field Artillery he is at Bulford Barracks, Bulford Camp , Salisbury.
Acting Bombardier John Henry Briggs, served with “C” Battery, 59th Brigade Ammunition Column Royal Field Artillery, He died on 13th April 1916 at 33rd Field Ambulance, Ballah, Egypt,from injuries sustained whilst bathing. He is buried in Ismailia War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt grave reference B 112
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 28th April 1916 :- “BRIGGS. – Died in Egypt from injury received while bathing, April 13th, Harry, beloved son of T. Briggs, 37, Alberta-terrace.” In memoriam published 13th April 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRIGGS. – In memory of Bombardier Briggs, died April 13th, 1916, in Egypt. God plucks His choicest flowers first. – From sister Florrie and aunt Harriett. “BRIGGS. – In loving memory of Bombardier Harry Briggs, died Egypt, April 13th, 1916.
