Leslie was born in 1898 in Nottingham and was the son of Albert Matthew and Lizzie Atkin née King and the brother of Elsie, Cyril, Eliza, Dorris and Lizzie Atkin. In 1911 they lived at 5 Buckingham Terrace Bunbury Street Meadows Nottingham. His father Albert Matthew was born in 1872 in Nottingham and his mother Lizzie King was born in 1872 in Nottingham they were married in 1897 in Nottingham.

Military History

Private Leslie Atkin enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1st battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers. He landed in the Balkans on 25th September 1915. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 31st May 1916 and is buried in Berks Cemetery Extension, Hainaut, Belgium grave reference II B 36.
