Family History

Sydney Payne was born in 1897 the son of Thomas a machinist and Mary Payne née Leek of 30 Alberta Terrace Sherwood Rise Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1871 in Nottingham, his mother in 1873 in Ireland. They were married in 1894 in Nottingham and had four children, three surviving infancy - Sydney b.1897, Thomas Leslie b.1901 and Lena b.1905. In 1911, they lived at 38, Alberta Terrace, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham.

Military History

Sydney Payne enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 30th July 1915. Menin Gate The award of his Military Medal was announced in the 'London Gazette,' 18th July 1917
