Family History

Frank Amos Bishop was born in 1899 he was the son of William a journeyman joiner and Susan Bishop née Rainbow and the brother of Emma, Sarah, Florence, George, Frank, Ethel and Arthur Bishop. William was born in 1856 at Nottingham, Susan Rainbow was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married on 21st December 1885 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 12 children. In 1911 the family lived at 86 Waterway Street Meadows Nottingham. William and Susan later moved to 45 Cremorne Street Meadows Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. Bishop was called up and following training he was drafted to France. He was killed in action on 08/08/1918 during the the final "Hundred Days" advance at Morlancourt, south of Albert. He was buried at Morlancourt British Cemetery No. 2.

Death notices published 26th August 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BISHOP. – Killed in action August 8th, Pte. F. Bishop, Norfolks, aged 18 years 9 months, the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, 138 Queen's-walk. Deeply mourned. – Mother, father, sisters, and brothers (Harry in France). “BISHOP. – Killed in action August 9th, Pte. F. Bishop, Norfolks. Duty nobly done. – Brother Jack, wife, and Leonard. “BISHOP. – Killed in action August 8th, Pte. Frank Bishop. Duty nobly done. – Sorrowing sister Nellie and Walter. “BISHOP. – Killed in action August 8th, 1918, Pte. Frank Amos Bishop, Norfolks, in his 19th year.
