Family History

Joseph Linacre was born in 1881 the son of Henry a collier and Sarah Jane Linacre née Hodgkinson of 32 Victoria Road Kirkby in Ashfield. Henry was born in 1857 at Danesmoor, Sarah Jane Hodgkinson was born in 1861 also at Danesmoor, married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 14 children, 1 however died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 Joseph has left the family home he is living at 10 Bentinck Street, Shuttlewood, Chesterfield, he is shown as being 30 yrs and a coal miner hewer he is living with his brother in law Thomas Hallam 24 yrs a coal miner hewer and his family In 1911 his parents and siblings are living at Vernon Road, Kirkby in Ashfield.

Military History

Private Joseph Linacre enlisted at Chesterfield whilst reisiding at Kirkby in Asfield, he died of wounds on 16th September 1916 and is buried at Habarcq Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 8.. Row D. Grave 4.
