Family History

Harry Shaw was born in 1895 at Old Radford and was the son of Harry a nursery gardener and Elizabeth Shaw née Jackson of 44 St Pauls Street, Radford, Nottingham. His father Harry was born in 1856 at Radford, his mother Elizabeth Jackson was born in 1859 at Radford, they were married in 1879 at Radford, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Sarah b1880, Harriett b1883, Harold b1886, Harry b1895 and Eva b1897 all were born in Radford. In the 1911 census the family lived at 44 St Paul's Street Old Radford Nottingham and were shown as Harry 55 yrs a nursery gardener, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 52 yrs and their children, Harriett 28 yrs a curtain mender, Harry 16 yrs a coal miner hewer and Eva 14 yrs a laundry packer.

Military History

Rifleman Harry Shaw enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 18th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
