Robert Fred (Bob) Wood was born in 1895 the son of Fred a general dealer and Annie Wood of 40 Station Road Kirkby in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. Fred was born in 1864 at Nottingham, Annie was born in 1865 at Cropwell, married C1889 they had a further child, Gladys Annie born in 1890 in America In 1911 Robert Fred was living at 121 Somerset Road, Huddersfield he is shown as being 16 yrs of age, single and an apprentice motor engineer, he is living with his uncle and aunt Alexis and Clarissa Huskinson.

Military History

Lance Corporal Robert Fred Wood enlisted at Huddersfield whilst residing at Kirkby in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 4th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
