Arnold Tomlinson was the son of Matthew George Tomlinson and Emma Still who married in the Radford registration district in 1876. Their children included: Harriet (b.1876), George (b.1878/d.1881), Albert (b.1882), George Henry (b.1884), Ernest (b.1886), Emma (b.1888), Herbert (b.1890), Beatrice (b.1893), Arnold (b.1895) and Walter (b.1897). The Tomlinson family lived at 48 Prospect Street, Radford [C.1881]; 33 Forster Street, Radford [C.1891]; 11 Osborne Street, Radford [C.1901 & C.1911]; 332 Alfreton Road, Nottingham [CWGC]. Matthew George Tomlinson who worked as a mechanic/fitter, died at Nottingham in 1928, aged 72. His wife, Emma, predeceased him, dying at Nottingham in 1916, aged 58.
Private Arnold Tomlinson, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 6th November 1916. He is buried in Ration Farm Military Cemetery, La Chapelle-D'Armentieres, Nord, France.
