George Henry Stell was born in 1899 the only son of John George a farm labourer and Sarah Ann Stell née Pierrepoint of The Cottage, Lenton Rd., Park, Nottingham. John George was born in 1875 at Friskby, Lincolnshire, Sarah Ann Pierrepoint was born in 1870 at Sutton on Trent, Nottinghamshire, married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district, the family lived at Birchacre House, Inkford Brook, Alvechurch in 1911.

Military History

Private George Henry Stell attested on 28th May 1917 at Nottingham, giving his age as 17 yrs 317 days he stated he was a dental apprentice, his next of kin was his father John George. Posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 16th August 1917 he was now 18 yrs and 32 days he initially served with the service number 92311 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. Transferred on the 21st November 1917 to the West Riding regiment he embarked from Folkstone on 21st May 1918 disembarking the same day at Boulogne. He went missing in action and later confirmed killed in action on 1st November 1918, he is buried at Preseau Communal Cemetery Extension.
