He was the son of William and Sarah Scoffield and the brother of Annie, Henry, Lucy, Edith and Amy Scoffield. In 1901 and 1911, the family lived at 5, Main Street, Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Sarah later lived at Danethorpe, Newark, Nottinghamshire.
