Father: George Rollson, born in 1865 at Coventry and working as an iron planer. Mother: Alice Rollson, born in 1870 at Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Brothers:Eric. A., born in 1899 and Frank, born on 1905. Sisters: Elizabeth, born in 1891, and employed as a hosiery worker, Phoebe, born in 1894 at Langwith, Derbyshire, and working as a dry powder packer, Doris H., born in 1904, Gladys, born in 1909 and Isabell, born in February 1911. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 14 Cremone Street, Meadows, Nottingham.
Pte. Rollson attested on 13/08/1914 i Nottingham, but on 09/10/1915 he was arrested and court marshalled for absenting himself without leave. He was sentenced to sixty-four days detention and forfeiture of fourteen days pay. On 08/02/1916 he was posted to France. He was hospitalised between 10/01/1917 and 31/01/1917 suffering from osteomyelitis. On 14/05/1917 he was again hospitalised at 30 General Hospital, Calais and did not rejoin his battalion until 08/07/1917. He was killed in action some two months later on 22/09/1917 in fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
