David was born in 1891 in Nottingham and was the son of George , a printer compositer and Annie McClure. His father George died when David was very young by the 1901 census his wife Annie is shown as a widow at 38 years of age , she is living at 2 Olive Row , Nottingham with her two children David 10 years of age and Percy 7 years of age. by the 1911 census the family are living at 103 Coppice Road, Mapperley. David is 20 years of age , single and a tailors fitter.
David enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 1/8th battalion, Sherwood Forsters Regiment. he was killed in action on 8th May 1917 , his body was never recovered or identified, his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial
His brother also served during the Great War Pte. George Percy McClure, 6th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, 103 Coppice Road. Death notice published 29th May 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “McCLURE. – Killed in action, May 8th, 1917, Private David McClure, Sherwood Foresters, beloved son of Mrs. McClure, 103, Coppice-road, Mapperley.
