Charlie Marcer was born in 1894 at Nottingham and was the only son of John Marcer and the late Ada Ann Marcer née Spencer of 89 Lambert Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1865 at Basford, his mother Ada Ann Spencer was born in 1868 at Nottingham, she died in 1910 aged 42 yrs they were married in 1891 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 89 Lambert Street Hyson Green Nottingham and were shown as John Marcer 46 yrs a widow and a box cutter, he is living with his son Charlie 17 yrs a clerk Living at 121 Exeter Road, Nottingham, the beneficiary of his will was Elsie Shephard Cross, his fiancée.
Lance Corporal Charles Marcer, enlisted at Tuxford, he initially served with the service number 235 in the Army Medical Corps, he was serving with the 2/20th (County of London) Battalion (Blackheath and Woolwich) London Regiment when he was killed in action on 30th April 1918 in Palestine. He is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery.Jerusalem War Cemetery
