Percy Brown was born in 1898 the son of William a frame work knitter and Lizzie Brown née Robinson of 9 Saxon Place, Alfred Street, Nottingham. His brother, John William Brown was also killed in action. William was born in 1869 at Nottingham, Lizzie Robinson was born in 1869 at Leicester, married in 1892 at Nottingham, they had 3 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 9 Saxon Place, Alfred Street North, Nottingham, William is 42 yrs and a frame work knitter, John William Brown is 17 yrs and a book binder, Percy 13 yrs is a scholar.
Private Percy Brown, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 10th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 13th February 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 8 March 1917: 'Brown. Killed in action February 13th 1917, Private Percy Brown, Sherwood Foresters, age 19, son of William and Lizzie Brown of 9 Saxon Place. Father, mother, Billy in France.' (See family history, Billy was killed in September the same year). His brother Private John William Brown enlisted at Nottingham, He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 aged 23, during the attack near Vlamertinghe, Belgium. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial (Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.)
