Family History

Abraham Bayliss (junior) was born in 1897 he was the son of Abraham Baylisss (senior) and Emma Bayliss née Charlesworth and the brother of Edith, Ena, George, Arthur and Florence Bayliss. Abraham (senior) was born in 1862 at Redworth, Warwickshire, Emma Charlesworth was born in 1864 at Leicestershire, they were married in 1887 at Leicester , they had 8 children. In 1911 they lived at 59 Holgate Road Meadows Nottingham Abraham 49 yrs is an engine driver, he is living with his wife Emma 47 yrs and 5 of their children including Abraham 14 yrs an errand boy. Emma later lived at 73 Holgate Road.

Military History

Lance Corporal Abraham Bayliss, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), He landed in France on 25th June 1915 and died of wounds on 22nd March 1918 and is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun (grave ref Vl.E.32)

Obituary published on 26th March 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BAYLISS. – Died of wounds, on the 22nd inst., Lance-Cpl. A. Bayliss, Sherwood Foresters, aged 21 years, fourth son of A. Bayliss, 73, Holgate-road. A great sacrifice.
